Magic & Fiber Work

Magic, storytelling and fiber work have common language.

We spin yarns out of fiber and words. We cast stitches and spells. These things are all connected. They shift our brain waves. Create altered states of being. Convey information.

But this connection seems to be missing from modern fiber work practices.

Makers are focused on production. I get it. We live in a society that equates productiveness with self value.

But you’re not just spinning fiber into yarn. You’re not just filling your closet or grasping at pennies. You are, knowingly or unknowingly, participating in a form of magic humans have been using since they figured out how turn plants and animal fur into threads. Imagine one long strand of fiber flowing from you all the way back through time to those first attempts at forming threads.

Working with fiber is an act of DNA remembering because humans have been doing it for so long.

Spinning, weaving, knitting or crocheting is witchcraft, not because you are taking one thing and turning in to something else, but because it changes you energetically, chemically, at molecular levels. It gives your brain space to think in the background. An uninterrupted connection to the Divine/Universe/Source.

I’d like to see more of this energy return to fiber work and hand work. In to all arts and crafts. Like world needs it to. Our lives depend on it. At least if we want to be living in something other than Survival Mode.

This magic connection fiber work has is there for all arts/crafts/hand work. In every moment of being in Creative Flow. But we’ve been cut off from that through societal conditioning. You can unlearn that conditioning.

Start with understanding that the little voice in your head, your Inner Critic, that says mean shit, isn’t your voice. It’s made up of other people’s and society’s nonsense. You don’t have to listen to it. It lies.

Doing things like fiber work can help you circumvent that voice and hear yourself.
