Little beacons every where

All year I’ve been feeling Eye of the Storm Energy. Hearing the sound of Godzilla charging up preparing to blast the fuck out of somebody.

Imagine being in that brief moment of calm-ish-ness, watching the chaos and debris swirl around you, knowing any moment the storm will continue on its path and suck you in. There is nothing you can do about, because you are already ass deep in shit.

Or finding yourself in a Godzilla movie, hearing the sound of him charging up getting louder and faster, knowing the blast is coming, but not being quite sure where it’s going to hit. Scary right?

That is where we are at. Whether you are actively aware of it or not. Your body and your nervous system is. This can be triggering fight, flight, freeze or fawn response without you necessarily realizing that is what you’re doing. You might be doing your very best to pretend nothing is wrong.

The destruction of things is chaotic and unpredictable. You can’t control it. Just like you can’t control a hurricane, flash flood or massive wild fire.

The destruction, the breaking down of harmful systems, is unavoidable and necessary if want to create something new.

So what do we do about this energy?

Understand how your nervous system is reacting. Expand the compacity of your nervous system as needed. (Be kind to yourself.)

Know that with destruction comes creation and move in the direction of what you want to create. Things will probably get shittier before they get better. Prepare for the shit show and actively follow your joy as if that shit just a blip. (In whatever ways work best for you)

This is a group project, but we are not all in the same situation with the same skills and resources. You do what is best for you. Best being whatever doesn’t also cause you harm. Your best can mean something different every day.

What am I doing?

Making art. Making our art, even if we don’t share it with the world, is super important. It might feel silly, dumb and pointless, but creativity is a core part of our human-ness. It’s healing, transformative and powerful.

Writing. These posts. Fiction. My thoughts about things so others know they’re not alone in the world.

Photography. Taking the time to slow down and notice + see all the wonderful things in our lives/world is massively important. Our energy goes where our focus goes. Focus on the good. This doesn’t mean ignoring the yuck, just not pouring all our energy there.

Energy work. Grounding. Clearing. Channeling.

Listening to the people who have been doing the work of dismantling harmful systems.

Touch grass. Even if for you that means chillin’ with some house plants. We are part of nature. No matter how hard our culture/society tries to push the idea that we are separate and above.

Doing what I can, where I can, when I can. Sometimes this looks like explaining state laws to people from other places or how SNAP/food stamps work to people who have never needed them. Sometimes it’s picking up trash in the woods or taking care of others.

What you do, is up to you. It doesn’t have to look like what I’m doing or what anyone else is doing. Existing and living your life to the fullest (whatever that looks like for you) is enough.

Each of us is a kind of lighthouse. Each sending out our own signal. Together it a bright ass light that can’t be ignored, dimmed or extinguished.
